Salad is The Main Dish
Dr Joel Fuhrman has a special called Three Steps (to health) which aired on PBS Channel WGBH Boston as part of its fundraising efforts. Fuhrman uses food as the main path to restore or maintain health and discourages drug therapy and surgery. His main theme is the “Salad is The Main Dish” with lots of greens and non oil based dressing. In the one hour lecture/discussion, he never mentions the word “vegan” or “vegetarian”. He never speaks about meat or dairy on the TV program either but they are on his own personal food pyramid as being somewhere around 10% of total intake.
The one thing he tells everybody to write down is the “salad is the main dish” not the optional side dish. According to Dr. Fuhrman, the top disease fighting foods are all greens, onions, mushrooms, beans, berries, and seeds. He also suggests adding seeds and nuts to salad dressings because they work more effectively that way.
It’s a very entertaining show and definitely worth watching. Except for the small amounts of meat and dairy, Dr Fuhrman is very close to The China Study and Forks Over Knives.
